Mono Sodium Phosphate

Monosodium Phosphate (MSP) is also known as sodium dihydrogen phosphate and monobasic sodium phosphate. This is an inorganic compound of sodium having dihydrogen phosphate (H2PO4) anion. This is a common industrial chemical and its salt exists in an anhydrous form. It is produced by incomplete neutralization of phosphoric acid. This is widely used in foods and water treatment. By mixing different sodium phosphates, its pH can be adjusted. In addition to this, it is also added in evaporated milk, animal feed, toothpaste, etc. It is also utilized as an emulsifier as well as thickening agent.

Applications of Monosodium Phosphate (MSP):

• Used to detect the occurrence of magnesium ions in salts
• Used as a thickening agent in animal feed, toothpaste, etc.
• Used in dyestuff
• Used in metal treatments
